An Evening with my Mom
I know you were expecting GREAT DEBATE PART 3 (finale). That will be a very personal journey. I have to pray about exactly what to say. THAT WILL BE TONIGHT..... But for a nice break from all the debating...I wanted to let you know about my evening yesterday. My Mom underwent her next to last chemo week. Very bad evenings. Thursday night we thought she might have to be checked into the hospital she was hurting so bad. The type of BAD that pain killers can't touch. But if.....she felt better she wanted to go see Jeff and Sheri Easter at Faith Baptist Church. I am not a huge fan of Southern Gospel. There is some songs I love but for the most part it is not my favorite. But when it comes to my Mom, WHATEVER WHENEVER HOWEVER she feels up to doing ANYTHING we are going! It was wonderful. The church was so welcoming. It is obvious that my Mom is a cancer patient. Everyone was just so kind. Mom was concerned about leaving her hat on. (Always the lady) But the church just made you feel comfortable. Sheri Easter sang a song about her own Mom that made me cry. It was a song that asked the question what would you want people to say about you after you died. It was called SHE LOVED. "She loved those she believed in" "She loved sacrificially and unconditionally" The song described MY MOM! We laughed at the jokes from Jeff Easter. Some were so funny! It was a great time. Afterwards, Mom said the words this girl LOVES to hear. "I am so hungry". Now please understand why this is so very important. Chemo and radiation have stolen so much of my Mom's life, one of which is her taste. She is not hungry. She can't taste anything. It is pretty awful. So for her to be actually hungry was wonderful! She wanted biscuits just warm biscuits. So off to Cracker Barrell we went! My Dad, brother, and I laughed at table and went down memory lane. My Mom just soaked it all in. And then of course the AGONY of cancer. After my Mom ate her wonderful biscuits, she immediately got sick! Cancer is so very very cruel. She recovered and sipped on her water. She was so tired. This was definitely a long trip for her. OVERALL, it was a great evening of memories but my Mom definitely paid a cost for making those memories. Always the giver my Mom. Yes...the Easters are some of her favorites but my Mom is always trying to give us a little more...a little more! I promise the first thing this woman would say about her Mom is that SHE LOVED!
